During the recent iGRID 2005 Conference, San Diego State researchers gave top international scientists a real-time virtual tour of areas damaged by hurricanes using a computer in Tokyo controlled by a keyboard and mouse in San Diego. For more information:

Establishes Center for Homeland Security Article in SDSUniverse: The new Center for Homeland Security, approved by the Academic Dean's Council on Oct. 19, 2005, will further the University’s efforts in this critical area. The center will be co-directed by Bob Welty, director of homeland security projects for the SDSU Research Foundation, and Eric Frost, director of SDSU’s interdisciplinary master’s degree program in homeland security.

CITI Receives Computer Donation from Haley and Aldrich Article in SDSUniverse: For professors Doug Stow and Ming-Hsiang Tsou of the Geography Department, the donation of a high-end Dell server will facilitate their research on a NASA-related border security project. With the added gift of two new Dell desktop computers, the university's Immersive Visualization Center continues to add to an array of donated equipment that contributes to the infrastructure of an advanced communications network.

College of Health & Human Services Visualization Center Media Demonstration Article in SDSUniverse: On Sept. 22, SDSU's Immersive Visualization Center, in conjunction with San Diego County agencies, demonstrated the use of different communications technologies to enhance homeland security efforts in the San Diego region. The County Sheriff's Department, County Hazardous Materials Department, and several technology companies participated in the demonstration.
